Scope

This standard covers double flanged and wafer type of metal seated, resilie nt seated cast iron, ductile iron and carbon steel and lined butterfly valves for general purposes. Valves covered under this standard are manually, pneumatically, hydraulically or electrically operated. Pressure Rating: PN-1.0 , PN-1.6

Usage and Purpose

Butterfly valves are primarily used in waterworks, sewage systems, industrial pipelines,and HVAC applications to regulate, start, or stop the flow of fluids. These valves are favored for their compact design, lightweight construction, quick operation, and cost effectiveness in large-diameter pipelines.

As per IS 13095:1991, butterfly valves are suitable for pressure ratings up to PN 1.6 MPa and are widely applied in water treatment plants, irrigation networks, fire-fighting systems, and power plants. Their quarter-turn operation allows rapid flow control with minimal pressure drop, making them ideal for both isolation and throttling services in
liquid flow systems.
